I announced at the beginning of last month we made a big decision – to move back to the place we spent 16 years before moving back to Michigan. One of the main motivators was lowered (resident) tuition for my son at college, and the other was my husband’s taking over of the businesses from his business partner who is read to retire.
There were some bumps in the road to getting here, like a substandard moving/shipping container which left most of our household goods and personal items back in Michigan. But we boarded our flight and made it safely to town, only to wait to move into our new home. That’s nothing new, since every move we’ve made has resulted in waiting for permanent housing to become available.
It’s been two weeks, and we’re in our new home. There are still things to do, besides getting the rest of our things here, to make it feel like home. We have an internet connection, but the other things we need for a smooth digital workflow for everyone have yet to arrive. So I sit here typing this on my laptop at a folding table we are using as a makeshift desk/dining table, etc. until everything is in place.
The good news: my son is thriving at college, moreso than ever in his K-12 schooling. My husband’s transition is going a little rocky, but things are getting done.
Have you ever done a cross-country, or out-of-state move? Did everything go as planned – or were there bumps in the road? How did you get you, and your stuff, to the new location? Let’s talk on Facebook!
