Crazy Places to Write

Crazy Places to Write

Where’s the craziest place you’ve ever written something down?  By “something” I mean notes or a phone message or some other short text.  I’ve written on my hand or arm, the wall (where I can’t currently write on the wall, since I don’t think the apartment complex I live in would enjoy having to deal with that once I move out),  and my current favorite place it seems – my desk top.  I write in pencil, first because pen wouldn’t even stick and I don’t want to use markers and second because it stays in place for however long I need it and I can erase it when I’m done with it.  Right now I have someone’s phone number and email address written down because I didn’t have any paper handy as I was listening to her voicemail.  (Places that don’t count: the margin of a book, any other type of paper – like construction paper, the back of a business card.)

Another place I’d like to start writing things down is in the shower or other part of the bathroom.  Often when I take a shower I think of something that I should be incorporating into my latest fictional story and I refuse to get out dripping wet and risk slipping and breaking an ankle just to write a couple words down.  But on the other hand, I usually end up thinking of other things and forget that “great idea” I had.  Apparently someone out there sells a waterproof pad and pencil set.  I really wish I had it because I feel like I’d get so much more done if I was able to write it down as I thought about it.

As I sit here and look around at my desk, I note the oodles and oodles of paper sitting around.  But those papers already have something on them – messages too important to write over.  I can’t always get here though, like when my phone rings as I’m parking my car somewhere, or when I’m out and about and realize the last page in my mini notebook that I keep in my purse is full.

Where’s your craziest place?
